Fadal Vice President Joins Hyundai-Kia Machine America Jerry McCarty Vice President of Worldwide Sales - MAG Fadal will join Hyundai-Kia Machine America on October 1, 2009. "This appointment brings tremendous exposure to the product line" explains Troy Owen, VP Sales & Marketing Hillary Machinery Inc, "and it shows that Hyundai-Kia Machine America is growing in popularity even within the executive employment marketplace." It's also becoming more and more commonplace to see accessories suppliers inquiring in hopes of partnering with one of the fastest growing machine tool product-lines in North America. "Even our dealer competitors are making inquiries to Hyundai-Kia Machine America in hopes of 'sizing up' the product-line, no doubt a result of losing market share to Hyundai-Kia in Texas."
WIA Corporation is reporting on their Korean website http://en.wiamachine.co.kr/intro/intro_info.asp?de=11&main=1&sub=1 "WIA Corp., with number one domestic market share, was integrated with Hyundai Motor Companys Machine Tools division in 2005 and launched a new brand "HYUNDAI-KIA MACHINE" having confidence in standing shoulder to shoulder with other prominent machine tool brands domestically, as well as internationally....."
This would certainly indicate that they have surpassed rivals Doosan, Hwacheon, Samsung, and others in South Korea where they are all headquartered. Hyundai-Kia Machine is well on their way to the goal they set in 2005 of having a global top 5 ranking. When Hillary Machinery Inc visited Hyundai-Kia Machine in Korea in June, we learned that WIA had recently hired a number of Doosan's top engineers as well so they are very determined to make their mark in this industry. Not only has Hyundai-Kia dominated in South Korea, they are on the fast track to take market share in the US by stocking several hundred models in LA and NJ. We have already transitioned many Doosan and Hwacheon long time customers over to Hyundai-Kia right here in Texas. Hyundai-Kia, Doosan, Samsung, and Hwacheon have many competitive models to offer, but we (and Hyundai-Kia) have been very successful showing customers and prospective customers the greater value with Hyundai-Kia's product depth, lower pricing and immediate availability. I'm not even certain at this point if Doosan can stop Hyundai-Kia from overtaking them. Hwacheon is not even a significant competitor any longer and it may prove more difficult for Samsung to even get thier product line off the ground. Everyone is jockeying for a position. Many dealers are trying to secure the Hyundai-Kia line in thier territories and many of our competitive dealers are contacting our sales people as well. You know you have something special when your competitors continuously try and recruit your product line and your people.......they just want what we have." Texas Manufacturing Contracts at a Slower Pace in August The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has released the latest Texas Manufacturing Outlook Survey. Results of the Texas Manufacturing Outlook Survey suggest that factory activity continued to contract at a slower pace in August. The production index dipped slightly. Indexes for capacity utilization, new orders and growth rate of orders ticked upward, but they remained negative. For the most part, the changes reflect fewer companies seeing declines in these measures. Get the full story at <http://dallasfed.org/data/outlook/2009/tmos0908.html>

The Milltronics ML Series Lathe with Centurion Control has a very unique thread chasing function unavailable on most of today's CNC controls. When the Milltronic's machine is in manual mode, the operator can position the threading insert into a known thread, and it will automatically pick up the lead to make a single pass through the thread to clean it up. This can be a straight thread or a tapered pipe thread. For larger deeper pipe threads that require multiple passes, Milltronics adds a special encoder to the machine (for about $1000). Milltronics can then generate a custom macro which is given to the customer that allows multiple passes through a thread to clean it up. It is set up on prompt to basis, so once the operator starts the thread repair, the control prompts the operator after each pass asking if the thread is deep enough. If not, it asks how much deeper the cut should be. It's a pretty nice feature that works for the bigger pipe threads typical in the Texas market." For more information on this and other.
The programming system on a Milltronics Centurion Control is a conversational CAM system within itself. Since the Centurion control utilizes an open PC architecture, the control's programming and operator interface can be installed on a desktop PC for programming off-line and training new operators without tying up machine production. This can save customer's thousands of dollars. For start ups, there is no need to make the investment in a CAM system. Download a control demo at http://www.milltronics.net/Resources/Images/2836.zip A menu based question and answer format prompts the operator through program creation. Our conversational programming is not only quick and easy, it is extremely powerful. In fact, many operations available with conversational programming are difficult to duplicate with G and M code programming. The simple task of incrementing a tool to depth with G and M codes usually involves complex looping of subprograms or with the use of many redundant commands. With conversational programming this task is reduced to simple statements where only the cut increment and depths need to be entered. Manual Operation with Teach Programming? The SLS software not only supports full manual operation of the machine, it also allows a program to be constructed as the machine is operated manually. When manually machining a part for the first time an operator presses a button after each move and the present machine location is stored in an executable CNC program. The program is stored both in conversational and ISO format making future editing easy. Download a demo at http://www.milltronics.net/Resources/Images/2836.zip All Centurion controls accept the G and M codes recognized as industry standard. Advanced trigonometry assist is much more than a calculator. It allows the programmer to use the CNC's computing power to calculate geometry intersection without the need for trigonometry. The programmer only needs to estimate the end point of the line or arc and the CNC connects the geometry to the nearest intersection on its own. There is no need to have exact intersection calculations. Download a demo at Maximize productivity by programming while the machine is in operation. Create new programs, modify existing programs, edit tool and fixture offsets, copy programs to / from floppy disk, send programs through the RS232 port or the network, even edit the program in operation, all is possible while the machine is cutting. Graphics Based Mid Program Start? Starting in the middle of a program is often one of the more challenging tasks facing a CNC operator. Milltronics has solved this problem with a unique process where the operator can verify a program graphically up to the point where starting is desired and then simply switch over to the Run mode. This ensures that modal codes are executed completely and in sequence. Download a demo at http://www.milltronics.net/Resources/Images/2836.zip Hand-Wheel Controlled Program Execution? This useful feature allows an operator to take total control of machine movement and run problematic programs with confidence. With this feature enabled, program movement only occurs while the and wheel is being turned; stop turning the handwheel and machine movement stops immediately. Programmed feed rates still relate to motion from the hand whel. Ask any experienced CNC operator if they have ever crashed a machine and the answer most likely will be yes. With this feature an operator can avoid crashes and safely work near rotating lathe chucks or expensive fixtures. Powerful macro programming is standard on all Centurion CNC controls. Macro programming allows you to take full advantage of the CNC capabilities and opens new doors to tool management and more ... Download a demo at http://www.milltronics.net/Resources/Images/2836.zip Programs surpassing 10 MB can be executed conventionally without the need for DNC. This large program execution capability not only frees you from restrictive DNC methods, it also permits subprogram calls - greatly enhancing multiple cavity work. Our patent pending feature unique to Milltronics does not measure ball screw temperature, but actual ball screw expansion and contraction using a non-contact LVDT device. This measurement constantly updates the control to compensate for positioning change. This is very valuable in maintaining accuracy in applications containing a lot of rapid moves. High Speed and Intelligent S Curve Axis Acceleration And Deceleration?
Processor Speed - There are literally thousands of calculations required for each and every axis movement. When trying to machine complex geometry often the microprocessor of the control creates a bottleneck restricting the feed rate. To minimize processing bottlenecks, Centurion CNC controls utilize two 32 bit processors providing over 400 megahertz combined processing speed. With these two processors working together, over 1200 blocks per second can be achieved. Intelligent S Curve Axis Acceleration And Deceleration - Controlling how an axis decelerates and accelerates is one of the most crucial factors relating to machine speed. Understanding that it is impossible for a servo motor to stop and start a heavy machine slide close to 1,000 times per second leaves the only hope of achieving speed through greater intelligence of the acceleration and deceleration slopes. All Centurion controls search as much as 255 moves ahead into a program to determine the directional changes that lay ahead. Once these directional changes are known the CNC dynamically adjusts the deceleration and acceleration slopes to minimize stopping and starting. Accuracy - Centurion CNC controls utilize a complex "Feed Forward" error correction algorithm that reduces inaccuracy caused by corner rounding and following error without compromising speed. This is an essential feature for performing high speed milling.
