Hillary Machinery Celebrates 1000+ Hyundai Wia CNC’s Sold in Texas & Oklahoma
Since opening its North American subsidiary in 1989, Hyundai Wia has installed over 10,000 CNC’s across the Americas. The
Texas/Oklahoma region has been the recipient of at least 1000 of those, most of which were sold and installed by Hillary
Machinery, Hyundai Wia’s exclusive dealer partner in the region since 2003

The latest recipient, Lockheed Martin, recently added their first Hyundai Wia turning center after purchasing 5 (five) F-Series machining centers at various facilities in
the Americas, but they are just the latest in a long list of major manufacturers to add Hyundai Wia CNC’s to their line-ups of CNC capabilities including Halliburton,
SPX, Apple, General Electric, Trinity Industries, Martin Sprocket & Gear, Joy Global, Schlumberger, Gridiron Capital HM Dunn, Basic Energy Services, Teledyne,
Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Toyo, Marlin Firearms, Parker Hannifin, Colt Defense, George Fisher, Federal Mogul, Zimmer, Kyocera, SLPT/SLW Automotive, Delphi, ITT, ITW,
Emerson, NSK, Sanden International, Maxion, Regal Beloit, Pentair, Core Labs, Eaton, Ameriforge, National Oilwell, Pentair, Brembo, Milwaukee Electric, Renault,
Magna, Fastenal, Mando, Rexnord, Crosby, Forum Energy, Goodman Manufacturing, and thousands of small, medium, and large job shops.
Commitment and dedication to building long term relationships has been the key to reaching this milestone
“Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without Hyundai Wia’s great products and support. While we have had a solid
partnership with Hyundai Wia since 2003, bringing our customers and employees into the long term fold of that partnership has been a
major contributing factor as well,” says Troy Owen, President of Hillary Machinery. Hillary Machinery was founded in 1984 by Patrick
Hillary. In 32 years, Hillary Machinery has become one of the largest machine tool dealer service organizations in the Southwest with
offices in Houston and Dallas, serving Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. In 2009, Hillary Machinery partnered with Jeff Messenger, now
President of Hillary Machinery, to open its Tulsa office which serves Oklahoma and Arkansas. In 2016, Hillary Machinery was named Top
Dealer for Hyundai Wia Machine America, adding to an already impressive list of top dealer awards earned by the Hillary Machinery group.
Hyundai Wia Machine is one of South Korea’s largest machine tool builders claiming the #1 spot
in domestic market share for 16 consecutive years, leading all of its Korean rivals.
Hyundai Wia’s parent company, the Hyundai Motor Group is among the world’s top 5 automakers. In addition to machine tools, Hyundai
Wia also manufactures auto parts, railroad and defense vehicles as well as artillery and aircraft components. Hyundai Wia began machine
tool production in 1977, in large part to supply its own manufacturing needs.
“What has always impressed me the most about Hyundai Wia is the fact that they
started building machine tools out of necessity; essentially to manufacture their
other products,” explains Jeff Messenger.
In 1983, Hyundai Wia hit a major milestone when it became the first to manufacture a CNC machining center in South
Korea. In 1986, Hyundai Wia established the Machine Tool Technology Research Institute. Throughout the 1990’s
Hyundai Wia was the recipient of multiple Korean industry achievement awards including multiple IR52 Jan Young Shil
Awards for CNC lathes, machining centers and cylindrical grinders and multiple CE, KT and EM marks for lathes and
machining centers.
“There is no greater acknowledgement of your manufacturing excellence than to have your own
competitors ask you to build their products,” adds Owen.
While Hyundai may have installed over 10,000 models in the Americas under their own brand name, there are a
significant number in service sporting the Mazak and Hitachi Seiki brand names. According to Hans Hansen, Regional
Sales Manager for Hyundai Wia Machine America, in the 1990’s, Mazak licensed Hyundai to build the Quick Turn 8N, 15N, 18N, 28N, 30N, and
35N Series Turning Centers. These models later became Mazak’s Quick Turn Series and Hyundai’s HiT Series Turning Centers with Siemens
and Fanuc controls.
Mazak also licensed Hyundai to build its AJV18, AJV25, AJV32 bridge type machining centers as well as their H400, H500, H630, and H800
series Horizontal Machining Centers. The H series of horizontal machining centers formed the basis for Hyundai Wia’s heavy duty KH series
which is still in production today.
In 1997, Hyundai Wia also co-developed and manufactured Hitachi Seiki’s CX-1 Vertical Turning Centers and VM40 Vertical Machining
Centers.
Most of today’s Hyundai Wia models are the result of 10-20 years of continuous improvement.
According to Hansen, “Many of Hyundai Wia’s models including the KH Series of Horizontal Machining Centers and KBN Series of
Horizontal Boring Mills have been in production for 20 or more years, and most of them are still in-service today.” Their newest models
including the F (KF) Series Vertical Machining Centers and L Series Turning Centers have been in production for 10 or more years. In
2010, Hyundai Wia was awarded Korea’s prestigious Technology Innovation Prize for Manufacturing.
“With 16 global service centers and 7 global replacement parts fulfillment
centers, Hyundai Wia is well positioned to support its domestic and global
customers,” explains Hansen
Managed by its GSIS (Global Service Information System), Hyundai Wia maintains the availability and shipment of over 23,000 individual
replacement part numbers at 7 global locations, including Chicago, IL., Carlstadt, NJ., China, India, and 2 in South Korea. In addition to local
dealer support, Hyundai Wia also has a team of factory based application and service technicians ready to respond to customer or dealer needs
from multiple global locations, including 2 in the USA (Carlstadt, NJ & Chicago, IL).
With decades of automotive manufacturing automation experience, there is perhaps no better company to turn to
when it comes to machine tool automation.
With over 2500 powertrain automation systems, 7630 robots, and 200 body shop lines installed to date worldwide, Hyundai
WIA’s factory automation business is aimed at supplying solutions for improved productivity. The foundation of all factory
automation products and solutions offered is their Global experience in the highly competitive powertrain market. Hyundai
WIA’s advanced machining systems and cutting edge automobile assembly lines are some of the best in the world. Of
course this experience and know-how has contributed to the growth and continued success of the Hyundai Motor Group of
companies by producing world class automobile manufacturing and production facilities.
